Recall Aftermath: The Laughter Doesn't Stop

Thursday October 9, 2003
California's recall madness may be over, but the jokes keep coming. TopFive.com presents the "Top 14 Changes in California Under Governor Schwarzenegger." Meanwhile, 8th place finisher Gary Coleman appeared on Letterman to offer his "Top 10 Ways California Would Be Different If I Had Been Elected Governor."

Speaking of Coleman, apparently there was little love lost between him and porn star Mary Carey, two of the most prominent sideshow freaks in the recall circus. "I'm so sick of Mary," said Coleman, who was toppled by Carey when the two competed on The Game Show Network's "Who Wants to be Governor of California?" Replied Carey: "I don't know why he hates me. I don't hate him."

In case you missed it, you can watch "The Daily Show's" hilarious election night coverage of the recall. And you can also check out a series of editorial cartoons about Arnold's victory, as well as this amusing animated cartoon by Mark Fiore showing Arnold what he's won.

Not to be outdone by all the jokesters, Governor-elect Schwarzenegger got in on the act by appearing once again on "The Tonight Show" to thank Leno for helping launch his political career and to poke fun at him for appearing bored during his victory speech.

The other late-night comics also weighed in on Arnold's win: "Arnold Schwarzenegger is gonna be the new governor of California," said Conan O'Brien. "During his acceptance speech Arnold said 'I will not let you down.' Unfortunately, at the time Arnold was holding a woman over his head and looking up her dress." (For more jokes, click here.)

Yes, laugh all you want. But the Golden State is famous for setting trends, and the circus may be coming to your state next.
