Bush's Bicycle Mishap

Monday May 24, 2004
President Bush scraped his chin, upper lip, both knees, his right hand, and his nose after tumbling off his mountain bike during a ride on his ranch.

When reporters told John Kerry the news, he reportedly replied, "Did the training wheels fall off?"

White House spokesman Trent Duffy was quick to point out that the fall was not Bush's fault. "It's been raining a lot and the topsoil is loose," he said.

For the record, here's a look at precipitation levels in Crawford, Texas over the past 9 days:

May 22: 0", May 21: 0", May 20: 0", May 19: 0", May 18: 0", May 17: 0", May 16: 0", May 15: 0", May 14: 0.03"

Late-Night Bush Jokes
"President Bush fell off his mountain bike down on his ranch in Texas. A couple weeks ago, John Kerry fell off his bicycle. See, doesn't this make you miss President Clinton? That guy, he could ride anything without falling off." —Jay Leno

"You know what really makes this embarrassing? The other day the president said the leaders in Iraq are 'ready to take off the training wheels.' That's what he said, 'take off the training wheels.' Then he goes out and falls off his bicycle. And they wonder why the rest of the world doesn't take us seriously." —Jay Leno
