CBS, Dan Rather and the Fake Memos

Monday September 20, 2004
The Professional Cartoonists Index presents a collection of political cartoons about the controversy surrounding CBS and the forged documents related to President Bush's National Guard service.

"The Daily Show" reports on media coverage of the scandal, noting that the documents on Bush's service are undergoing the scrutiny usually reserved for blue dress stains.

David Letterman offers his "Top 10 Ways CBS News Can Improve Its Reputation" (#1: "Oh, I dunno, stop making up crap?")

Andy Borowitz reports that voters in a new poll give Bush high marks in the war on Rather.

An ironic email making the rounds questions why Bush isn't held to the same standard as Dan Rather when it comes to botching the facts.

In case there's any lingering doubt that Dan Rather is insane, read these classic Ratherisms from election night 2000 and 2002.

Late-Night Jokes
"We begin tonight with a simple, indisputable fact: as a young man, President George W. Bush benefited from family connections to get a place in the Texas Air National Guard, thus avoiding service in Vietnam. As you would guess, this has led to calls for the resignation of Dan Rather." —Jon Stewart
