Bush Gropes German Chancellor at G-8 Summit

Wednesday July 19, 2006
Not since President George H.W. Bush threw up on the Japanese Prime Minister has a president had the kind of disastrous, faux pas-riddled foreign visit that President Bush experienced at the G-8 Summit in St. Petersburg.

First he was overheard cursing with his mouth full of food. Then he was seen giving German Chancellor Angela Merkel a creepy, uninvited neck rub. Watch video of the incident and view the frame-by-frame pictures.

Jon Stewart had this take:
The chancellor of Germany disengaged herself from the president of the United States using a move she learned in date rape prevention class. ... By the way, if that was Clinton going in for Merkel, somehow her bra would be off.
On Majikthise, blogger Lindsay notes:
Every woman will recognize the guy who sidles up and starts "casually" giving you a backrub without even looking at you, because he wants to preserve deniability in case you freak out. Like any practiced groper, Bush stares right past Merkel as she recoils from his touch. The play fails, but he just moves on, eyes averted, like it's her problem.
In fairness, though, it should be noted that Bush is an equal opportunity harasser. He's also made awkward sexual overtures to Joe Lieberman.

Still, Bush has nothing on Herr Gropenfuhrer, Arnold Schwarzenegger, who remains the king of the unwanted sexual advance.

LOL, Anonymous!
Oddly, as a German, I see Pres. Bush’s actions as a a feigned warning…or, perhaps, his way of patting-down the Chancellor, without making a big deal out of it.
Remember, Germany — we won the last two!
