Barack Obama, Comedian

Tuesday November 11, 2008
Barack Obama, Comedian One of the lesser-known facts about Barack Obama is that he possesses a wicked sense of humor. Witness this video making the rounds from a 2005 roast of Rahm Emanuel, in which the future president pokes fun at his future chief of staff for, among other things, being a ballet dancer in his youth.

"Very few people know...that he studied ballet for a few years. In fact, he was the first to adopt Machiavelli's The Prince for dance," Obama quips. "It was an intriguing piece, as you can imagine, there were a lot of kicks below the waist."

Obama also won rave reviews during the campaign for his stand-up routine mocking John McCain at the Al Smith dinner.

Comedians may be having a hard time finding the funny in Obama, but at least we can count on Obama serving up a few good punch lines himself, his recent jab at Nancy Reagan notwithstanding.

He’s a smart fellow and most smart fellows have some sort of wicked humor, I don’t know why perhaps that’s the way they control stress, no idea?

He IS a funny guy. I still laugh at the joke he made at the dinner when he said his middle name was really “Steve”. :-D

Is there anything other than this and him not liking beets that might be more worthwhile and more valuable to write about? Would like to learn more about his past, etc. other than his involvement with Ayers, Rev. Wright, Acorn, etc. Can we read about his accomplishments, awards, honors, academics, etc. Thanks!

Lol yeah I remember that time where Obama got “chocked up because of his anger”. I thought that was a clever joke, although it might have been inappropriate at that time because he was discussing the serious problem of bonuses…

I find it kind of refreshing to have a president with a sense of humor. Loved his White House Correspondent’s Dinner Speech last week. He’s not afraid to make fun of himself :-)

Considering the job we’ve giving him to do, I’d much prefer a man who has a sense of humor, can laugh at himself, and see the lighter side of things running the show. =)

Great comedy comes from great communications. Obama is perhaps one of the best Oratorial Presidents we have had in too long. His speeches make you feel the hope he feels for this country. I only hope that he’s not all style and no substance.

I think most would agree that it is refreshing to have a president with a sense of humor; as long as it is in good taste. So fat Obama seems to take this this in stride.

(19) Floor Steam Cleaner says:

This is one of the many reasons why I think Barack Obama is an incredible individual. While humor doesn’t make someone qualified for the President, I will say that it is refreshing to have someone in the Oval Office that brings forward an intelligent form of humor rather than one whose humor is encompassed by how ridiculously dumb his next statement might just be. The verdict is still out on Obama, but its good to see he has a funny side as well. I bet he wishes though that he could get a new Blackberry Bold 2 instead of the Blackberry device he was given.
