Letterman Jokes About Affair and Apologizes to Wife
David Letterman apologized on the air to his wife and his staff following his admission that he had sexual affairs with staff members. He also cracked a couple of jokes about his wife's reaction.
"Right now I would give anything to be hiking on the Appalachian Trail," Letterman said.
He added, "I got into the car this morning and the navigation lady wasn't speaking to me."
"Things are still pretty bad. There's a possibility I'll be the first talk-show host impeached," he said.
Later in the show, guest Steve Martin talked about the scandal and told Letterman, "It proves that you're a human being. And we weren't really that sure before."
