Sarah Palin Jokes With Media Elite In a surprise appearance on The Tonight Show, Sarah Palin finally got her revenge on master thespian William Shatner.

One of the most popular recurring segments on the show this year has been Shatner's dramatic readings of Palin's prose. It started with a poetic recitation of Palin's rambling farewell speech, followed by a reading of her nutty Tweets.

Last night, Shatner read excerpts from Palin's best-selling book, "Going Rogue."

"I looked down to see the moose's eyeballs lying in his palm, still warm from the critter's head," Shatner said, holding Palin's book in his hands.

Palin then strutted out on stage and turned the tables, performing her own bongo-beat reading from Shatner's autobiography, "Up Till Now."

"My whole being resonated with incredible feeling that I was going to go visit with an elephant, on a starless, moonlit night in Africa," Palin said, holding Shatner's book in her lap. "And I was going to visit that elephant in my underwear."

The audience howled, and Shatner and Palin departed the stage holding hands.

"It's good to finally see those two together," Conan quipped afterwards.

It was a funny moment for the oft-ridiculed Palin, who's been trying to rehabilitate her image on her book tour. Taken together with her comedy routine at last week's Gridiron dinner, Palin is clearly trying to show she's a good sport who can roll with the comedic punches (her spat with David Letterman notwithstanding).
