The Mystery Bulge: Was Bush Wired?
Wednesday October 13, 2004
Was President Bush wired to get help from aides during his first debate with Sen. John Kerry? Rumors began spreading in the blogosphere after several astute observers noted a mystery bulge on Bush's back, which they said could have been a radio transmitter. The White House laughed off the charges as ridiculous, with one adviser joking about "little green men on the grassy knoll." But that hasn't stopped the rampant speculation.
Sen. John Edwards even got into the guessing game during an interview with Jay Leno. Asked what he thought the bulge was, Edwards quipped, "I think it was his battery," adding, "I think tomorrow, before the debate, John Kerry ought to pat him down."
Joke of the Day
"There are photographs of President Bush from the first debate and he's got some kinda lump in the back of his coat ,and the rumors are flying that he had a special radio receiver and he was getting answers from someone off stage. Wow, it's like he's back at Yale." —David Letterman
