Mitt Romney's laughable statement that he doesn't understand why airplane windows can't be opened has become one of his most widely mocked remarks to date.
Here's what Romney said:
"When you have a fire in an aircraft, there's no place to go, exactly, there's no -- and you can't find any oxygen from outside the aircraft to get in the aircraft, because the windows don't open. I don't know why they don't do that. It's a real problem." --Mitt Romney, speaking at a Beverly Hills fundraiser, Sept. 22, 2012It's unclear whether or not Romney was joking, but the Internet mockery has nevertheless been merciless:

Stephen Colbert also took a jab at Romney, quipping, "Just as Kennedy challenged us to put a man on the moon, now Mitt Romney is challenging us to add power windows to the Delta shuttle -- not because it is easy, but because it is impossible."

Nice attempt at spin. If that’s Romney’s idea of a joke, then that alone should disqualify him from the presidency.
Obama thinks there are 57 states.
If I’m sitting on a plane, I’d rather be sitting next to the guy who thinks there are 57 states than the guy who wants to open the window.
If it really was a joke, considering his wife could have died on a plane crash, then Mr. Romney has got a sinister sense of humor. Oh, but we already knew that, just look at his plans for Medicare.
Not a Romney fan by any stretch, but did think it was an inept attempt at humor. Poor Mitt just can’t get it right. Does great job at making money, dodging taxes and the Draft, but humor is just out of reach.
If it were meant as a joke, the Romney campaign would have clarified it as such. They didn’t.
If a joke has to be labelled as such, after the fact, by one’s staff, then it’s safe to say it ain’t a joke.
