Seven Dwarfs Better Known Than Supreme Court Justices
Wednesday August 16, 2006
Three-quarters of Americans can name at least two of the seven dwarfs, but only a quarter can name two Supreme Court justices, according to a new pop culture survey that should surprise no one.
Americans are also more familiar with the Three Stooges than the three branches of government, with 74 percent able to correctly identify Larry, Curly, and Moe, while only 42 percent could name the executive, legislative, and judicial branches.
And there was more bad news: Twice as many people (23 percent) were able to identify the most recent winner of "American Idol," Taylor Hicks, as could name the newest Supreme Court Justice, Samuel Alito (11 percent).

"More Americans can name the three stooges than the three branches of government. Well, that's because the three stooges are more likely to get something done." --David Letterman
